What we get asked about Academia and research
We cannot go into the project itself. In general, for institutions and labs we build systems, AI agents and research tools.
Often the first project is one tool the lab rewrites every year, or a script from a PhD student who left that nobody dares touch. We turn it into maintained software with an interface and documentation. A project like that fits a grant, and we quote a fixed price up front so you can budget it.
We have worked through large organisations' procurement. We provide a written specification, a fixed quote and documents that fit committees, and align the timeline with the academic year and grant dates. If it has to be split into phases to fit the budget, we split it.
The institution. The code in your repository, the data in your environment, with permissions we define together. If it suits the research, the tool can be released as open source and attached to the publication.
We start by defining who the user is and what they need, because an algorithm that works in a paper is not a product that works. We wrap it in a system with an interface, monitoring and tests, and launch a pilot with real users. After the pilot you know whether it is a spin-off, a company, or an internal tool.
