Every month, the Bank of Israel tracks thousands of new mortgage transactions across banks and non-bank lenders. Most of that volume still passes through manual workflows: phone calls to collect documents, spreadsheet-based status tracking, and physical signatures on final paperwork. The software and AI development for mortgage and insurance advisors sector has grown because advisory firms want to shorten that process without building a banking IT department from scratch. This guide explains what the automation effort actually involves.

Mortgage Origination Automation in Israel (2026): What It Takes
Most Israeli mortgage applications are still processed manually. This is what it takes to automate the origination workflow — and what a custom system costs.

Let's Talk About Your Project
Where time is lost in origination
A standard mortgage origination workflow in Israel has six stages: lead intake, document collection, credit check coordination, property appraisal, approval, and final closing with Tabu (Land Registry) registration. Most of the delay sits in stages two and three.
Document collection is iterative. Advisors ask for pay stubs, bank statements, and tax documents; borrowers send partial files; advisors chase for the rest. Each cycle adds days. Credit checks require ordering reports from BDI or D&B Israel, reviewing them manually, and flagging edge cases for the lender. Neither step has to be manual.
What automation covers
A well-built origination system handles four areas:
- Document intake: a borrower-facing portal or WhatsApp bot sends a checklist at intake, classifies incoming files via OCR, and flags what is still missing, with no chasing by the advisor.
- Status updates: automated messages at each stage change (application received, credit check complete, appraisal booked) so neither the borrower nor the advisor needs to ask where things stand.
- Credit data aggregation: pulling BDI or D&B credit reports via API and surfacing the relevant fields to the advisor rather than making them parse a full report.
- E-signature and closing: digital signatures on the final mortgage deed and related documents, reducing the need for in-person signings.
Appraisal and Tabu registration are harder to automate fully. Appraisers work on their own schedules; Tabu registration still requires a licensed lawyer or notary in most cases. These stages can be tracked and prompted but not replaced.
Israeli-specific integrations
Mortgage software built for European or American markets rarely fits Israeli requirements out of the box. Three integrations are specific to the Israeli market. Credit scoring runs through BDI or D&B Israel, not Equifax or TransUnion. Non-bank lenders must file regulatory reports to the Capital Markets, Insurance, and Savings Authority in specific formats. Advisors also routinely check Tabu encumbrances before closing; an API integration replaces the manual lookup.
Build vs buy
Off-shelf products cover pieces of this well: DocuSign or Adobe Sign for e-signatures, WhatsApp Business API for client messaging, BDI's own portal for credit reports. End-to-end mortgage origination software has no direct Israeli equivalent that supports Hebrew, NIS currency, BDI integration, and Bank of Israel reporting formats together.
The practical question is not build-or-buy but how much custom integration is needed. A firm that already uses a CRM can often connect it to a WhatsApp bot and a BDI API integration without a full rebuild. A firm whose entire workflow runs on paper has a larger scope.
What a project looks like
The minimum viable scope for an Israeli mortgage advisory firm typically includes: a borrower-facing document intake interface (web or WhatsApp), a back-office task dashboard for advisors, BDI API integration, and automated status messaging. A project at this scope involves a product spec phase of two to three weeks, development of eight to fourteen weeks depending on integrations, and a structured handover.
Scope expands when a firm wants a customer portal for ongoing account management, Tabu lookup integration, or an AI layer that surfaces anomalies in submitted documents. Each addition is a separate integration with its own timeline.

Before you start
Three questions are worth answering before scoping the build: Which stage causes the most client drop-off today? Does the firm operate under a bank license or as an independent advisor (this determines regulatory reporting requirements)? And what CRM or existing software is already in place, since integrating is almost always faster than replacing.
The answers shape whether the right project is a focused WhatsApp automation, a full origination platform, or something in between. The Bank of Israel mortgage statistics provide useful market context on Israeli origination volumes and average loan sizes.
